Greece - Aegina

Just 27 kilometres from the mainland, the compact island of Aegina is a popular destination for Athenians who come here to escape the city, dine on seafood and sunbathe on one of the many beaches.

There are excellent tavernas and restaurants and many secret coves where you can drop anchor and dive into the crystalline water.

Call or contact your friendly Abberley charter broker here for assistance in planning an unforgettable yachting vacation in Aegina and the Cyclades.

Aegina – Top yacht charter destination

Think pistachio nuts, horse-drawn carriages, a Venetian castle, neoclassical architecture, imposing ancient ruins, white Orthodox churches, lovely beaches and warm water. Aegina is in easy reach of the islands of Kea, Kythnos, Poros and Hydra, making it a great choice for a stopover. While it gets busy in summer, you’ll be able to avoid the crowds aboard your yacht, finding private spots to pause and drink in the beauty while relaxing in luxury.

Aegina – Things to do

Aegina is home to one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. The Temple of Aphaea, which stands on a mountaintop above the town of Agia Marina, was dedicated to Aphaea, a local goddess from the island. Head up there and capture some spectacular photographs – and memories – with your loved ones. Mere minutes from Aegina is idyllic Moni island, uninhabited by humans but home to wild goats, deer and peacocks which stroll onto the beach in search of snacks. The sea is clear and warm, offering superb snorkelling conditions, and the pine trees provide welcome shade.

Aegina – Gourmet experience

Because of its proximity to Athens, restaurant standards on the island are high. In Perdika, try the octopus, calamari and fresh salads at Remetzo and the freshly caught fish Miltos. Kriton Gefsis in Aegina town is the place to go for steak that melts in your mouth. Also in the main town, stylish Dromaki serves Mediterranean dishes, including goat and rooster in wine – at tables set right on the sand.

Aegina – Nightlife

Muzik Café, overlooking the port in Perdika, is a great spot for sundowners while Aegina Maris Beach Bar, in Egina, has spectacular views over the bay and is great for a romantic drink. For a proper night out until the wee hours, chic Barrera Cocktail Bar in Egina, on the west coast, serves an array of drinks and stays open until 5am in summer.
