South Pacific - Fiji

Incredible natural beauty, rich culture, and welcoming locals, Fiji is famous for its outstanding beaches and magical underwater life.

Majestic and tranquil, Fiji ticks every proverbial box in the categories “tropical getaway” and “supreme bliss”. Midway between Vanuatu and Tonga, Fiji occupies an area of 75,000 square miles, and only 10% of that is land. If you are searching for a tropical island-hopping yachting vacation, look no further. With 333 islands scattered in the gloriously iridescent blue sea, you’ll be waking up in a new gorgeous location every morning, aboard of a private luxury yacht where everything is taken care of for you.

Whether you want to lie on the beach or embark on a grand adventure, you’ll find Fiji has a wealth of opportunities for that.

Good place to start is the cigar-shaped Taveuni, the third largest island in Fiji. There is no better relief from constant noise and urban blight than a hike through luxuriant rainforest with a swim in the crystal clear waterfall pool where you watch fish glide by. Taveuni is known as the Garden of Fiji due to its lush greenery, vibrant colours, blooming hibiscus, plenty of birds and scenic bushwalks.

According to Jean-Michel Cousteau, Fiji is the soft coral capital of the world, so when leaving Taveuni for the next destination you can drop the anchor almost anywhere along the way. Then you just grab your diving/snorkelling gear, jump off the back of your yacht and explore corals carpeting the sea floor, sponges hanging off the volcanic rock walls, jelly fish drifting by and anemone clinging to the rocks. If you are into surfing, the waves are close to ideal almost year-round.

Savusavu sunsets are like no other. Viti Levu, the largest island, is perfect for cooling down in natural pools and reconnecting with nature. Fiji Culture Village in Nadi gives you a closer look at the life and ways of Fijians, their traditional dishes, dances and handicrafts. And then there is Levuka and Mamanuca island groups. You choose the island you want to explore and your private charter yacht takes you there, effortlessly and comfortably, in several hours or overnight.

Fijian cuisine is diverse and fascinating. If you are feeling gastronomically adventurous, try Kokoda, a local dish made of fresh mahi-mahi fish marinated in lime and lemon juice with onions, chillies, tomatoes and coconut milk. If you are more reserved and conservative, opt for curried prawns, grilled fish or a combination of red mead and lobster known as surf and turf, which is particularly good in the namesake restaurant in Savusavu. In Viti Levu, consider a visit to Wicked Walu Seafood Restaurant, which is an adult only restaurant serving delicious grilled lobsters, battered mahi-mahi and finger-licking desserts.

Fiji is more known for its seclusion and white sand beaches than vibrant nightlife, but that does not mean you won’t get your party fix here. Beachcomber Island in the heart of Mamanuca group is great for partying and dancing. Ed’s Bar in Nadi is a watering hole popular with expats and locals; here you can play pool and listen to rnb, rap, hip-hop and an occasional live band. In Suva you have Bar 66, Dragons, O’Reilly and Traps Night. And then there is Cloud 9. Two-level floating party venue with well-stocked bar, Italian pizzeria and visiting international DJs – you’ll easily get here from Port Denarau Marina or Beachcomber Island.
